Supervisors hear requests for county funds from outside agencies (2 videos)

MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors met for their regular meeting on Monday morning.  Next week’s meeting will also be held on Monday.

County Engineer Mary Kelly gave a road report.  She stated the obvious, that no snow plow trucks have been out on the streets yet, but that they are ready to go.

At 10:15 AM, the board heard presentations from outside agencies for funding requests.  Among the agencies that attended in person were: Elderbridge, Trinity House of Hope for Women, NIACOG, Best Buddies and Habitat for Humanity.

Joey Van Zomeren, executive director of the Trinity House of Hope, told NIT after the meeting they are asking the county for $10,000 and that due to a major increase in rent, her agency may need to move from its location at 2 South Adams Avenue.  The board denied the women’s shelter funding last year.

Elderbridge is asking for $28,825.20.  Elderbridge serves the elderly segment of our local population, and is taking on a new region as the state consolidates services.  The population of Cerro Gordo county is shrinking and becomeing more elderly, with about 24.2% of all residents here over 60 years of age.

Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors, Dec. 10th, 2012

An unusually thick turnout for a Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors’ meeting. Most of the folks shown above attended to explain to the board why their agency should receive funding from the county.

Nice to see Mr. Watts still attending the meetings.
To bad he’s not up front where he belongs!

I see the guy on the right in the first photo is awake today.
