DES MOINES – It is now widely reported that Senator Kent Sorenson of Milo, Iowa wants to introduce legislation to re-establish the death penalty in Iowa.

Iowa abolished the death penalty in 1965.

Sorenson, a Republican, has served in the Iowa Legislature since 2008.  He serves on a number of boards and commissions, including Advisory Council for Agricultural Education, Family Development and Self-Sufficiency Council and the Human Rights Board.

Sorenson, 38, works at a cleaning business and has 6 children.

Sorenson is no stranger to making news.

The Des Moines Register ran a story two years ago laying out his criminal past, which includes jail time on a drug conviction.  He also was involved in a spat between Ron Paul and Michelle Bachmann.
