Carolers tell Grassley to End Tax Cuts for the Top 2% (video)

Des Moines, Iowa – On Saturday, Progress Iowa and local organizations joined about two dozen Iowa taxpayers at Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office in Des Moines to sing “Fiscal Cliff Carols” with lyrics about tax fairness. Local middle class Iowans planned the event to send a clear message to Grassley: “Put the middle class ahead of millionaires and end tax breaks for the wealthiest 2 percent.” The event was part of a national day of action, which also included a rally outside the office of Rep. Tom Latham in Ames.

“Each year we remember the holidays as a time of giving, but middle-class Iowans have been footing the bill for tax breaks for the wealthiest two-percent of Americans for too long,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “That’s why we’re sharing the holiday spirit with Sen. Grassley and making sure he finally asks the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share.”

Progress Iowa organized the event in conjunction with AFSCME Iowa Council 61, Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, Iowa Alliance for Retired Americans, Iowa Citizen Action Network, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, Working Families Win, SEIU Local 199, South Central Iowa Federation of Labor, and Citizens for a Healthy Iowa, and are continuing to work in partnership with the national coalition The Action.

“The holidays are a great time to celebrate the spirit of giving, but that shouldn’t mean the middle-class should have to give up a shot at prosperity so that Wall Street bankers can keep their tax breaks,” said Sinovic. “It’s time for Sen. Grassley to realize that what we’re facing isn’t a debt crisis—it’s a revenue crisis, and it’s time for him to vote to end these unfair tax cuts for the rich.”

This isn’t about socialism or capitalism. It is about the middle class not being economically capable of carrying the spending load of this country any longer. Middle class have less spending money so the economy is in the crapper. Only money will save the econonmy so you have to get it where it is and that is the ‘wealthy’. Folks, this is a no brainer. Feds need to cut entitlements and get more money from the rich so the middle man can begin to carry the economy, again.

The working man/woman in country started competing for wages on a world stage thanks to NAFTA and GATT.

When people all over the world are working for much less then we are in America, the end results is and has been wages going down.

Thank Bill Clinton and the Democrats for that.

Tax the rich all you want but in the end we are going down the shitter. Socialism never works for long before there are riots and total civil unrest.

I sit in awe that people think that Government can spend our money better then the working man/women can. Government makes sure they get there cut and the people get noting back worth anything. Handouts will always keep you poor.

People that want socialism also must and do give up their freedom. Communism and Socialists are ultimately the one and the same!

A thorough understanding of Capitalism and Communism/Socialism ends up with people making one of two choices for their life.

Choosing Socialism, work is necessary for “maintenance of life”.

Choosing Capitalism, work is necessary to “get ahead in life”.

It is easy to conclude and see that people that choose Socialism live from meager to squallier.

People that live under Capitalism at least have a “chance” to get ahead and live better.

History shows these facts cannot be refuted!

Only a fool would choose Socialism!

@Anonymous-there sure are a lot of fools in this country now. It is easy to want what others have. I think even the Bible says you shouldn’t do that but we are turning into a godless country anyway. Do no misunderstand, I still think the Bible is a book written by old men to control other old men and mostly women. However, it does have some common sense rules in it.

Obama said it, they dont deserve to keep their mony, most of it should go to me, they did not earn it, and if they did, I still dont want to go to work, its not fare

Grassley isnt gonna change the system one bit, he loves things just the way they are.

Grassley Farms is now in its 3rd generation and has received Millions in farmers welfare over the years. Check it out.

Progress Iowa = Socialists. I don’t care whether I agree with them on whether the sun is shining or not. I would not come out and identify with that group in any way. Same as I would never support anything the Communist Party said.

@Katie-very well said. Completely agree with you.

Katie, when did socialist and communist become the same thing? You might want to go back to school or demand a refund.

Socialism is not Communism, but Communism incorporates socialism into its practices. I didn’t imply they were the same. I only meant same WAY I would not support Communism. You might want to learn how not to jump to conclusions or you may jump off a fiscal cliff into a big pile of socialism.

I would pay these punks no mind. They amount to nothing more then beggars!

I’m really supprised that there are no comments on here in support of this post. Being a low income wage earner, I support it. People are more interested in complaining about the unions making more then they do, and about gay rights then they are about the tax inequities that have been going on forever.

why is because a person makes more than you, you are entitled to a portion of it. To the person living in a hut in some 3er world nation you have more than him. Are you giving him a share of your wealth?

Why does the government gouge me on overtime (which I work for) but the 2% gets a pass?

JB, I don’t think that I am intitled to anything, I just want the top 2% to pay their fair share of tax’s. If I could pay 15% or less on my income, I’d probably go for that.
