Mason City woman flees law enforcement after attempted traffic stop

Collins was stopped near Clear Lake after fleeing law enforcement

MASON CITY – On Friday, November 30, 2012 at about 12:30 PM, Cerro Gordo County Deputies attempted to stop suspect Jennifer Kay Collins, 42, of Mason City near 5th and South Federal for expired license plates and felony warrants.

Collins, driving a tan 1995 Eagle Vision, failed to stop for deputies and proceeded to lead deputies and other law enforcement on a vehicle pursuit for several miles ending on I-35 near the 193 mile marker exit in Clear Lake.

The pursuit went through the southeast side of Mason City, rural areas south of Mason City, and eventually south out of Mason City on Hwy 65 to the Avenue of the Saints (Hwy. 18) to I-35, north on I-35 to the area near 193 mm where law enforcement deployed Stop Sticks to stop the pursuit.

Collins was taken into custody after a short struggle with law enforcement resulting in the following charges:

• Warrant: Forgery and Theft 2nd Degree – No Bond
• Warrant: Theft 3rd Degree $2,000.00 cash/surety
• Operating While Under the Influence $5,000.00 cash/surety
• Eluding Law Enforcement
• Reckless Driving
• No Driver’s License
• Operation Without Registration

More charges are expected.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by: Mason City Police, Clear Lake Police, and the Iowa State Patrol.
