NIACC is first business in North Iowa to be designated as a Blue Zones Worksite

NIACC

MASON CITY – North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) is the first business in North Iowa to be designated as a Blue Zones Worksite.

The Blue Zones Project™ is a community-wide, well-being improvement initiative to create healthier, happier and more productive citizens.

As part of the Blue Zones designation, to date about 70 NIACC employees have committed to making changes in their lives to make them healthier. Employees register online and make pledges to improve their overall wellness. Their pledges could include adding natural movement into their day, making improvements in their diet, finding ways to reduce stress, and other pledges.

The Blue Zones Project goal is to improve the health and well-being of Iowans. Citizens will benefit from healthier changes that are coming to schools, worksites, restaurants, grocery stores, and more. The Blue Zones Project is about environmental change where healthy choices become the easy choices. It is not an exercise program or a fad diet – it’s an initiative to take the long, sustained approach to community wellness.

On Friday, November 30, Dan Buettner, New York Times best-selling author of Blue Zones and Thrive, will be visiting Mason City to kick off the Blue Zone Project. This community rally begins at 5:30 p.m. at NIACC in the North Iowa Community Auditorium.
