NIACC Sports Update

MEN’S BASKETBALL
What’s next: The No. 5 NIACC men’s basketball team (8-1 overall) plays at the Luther College junior varsity in Decorah at 7 p.m. Monday. Next action after Monday’s game is another nonconference game at Rochester Community Technical College on Dec. 4.
Last time out: The Trojans, who have won eight straight games, routed Riverland Community College 97-57 on Nov. 20 in the NIACC gym as David Humphries recorded a triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
Player of the week: Humphries, a 6-foot-4 freshman from Adelaide, Australia, was the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference athlete of the week for his performance during the week of Nov. 11-17.
Stellar statistics: NIACC averages 90.1 points per game, which ranks 10th among all NJCAA Divsion II teams … Humphries ranks 11th in the nation in rebounds per game (10.3) … sophomore Chris Davis (Colorado Springs, Col.) ranks 20th in the nation in scoring (21.3 points per game).
League leaders: Davis leads the ICCAC in scoring (21.3 per game) and steals per game (4.2) … Humphries leads league in rebounds (10.3 per game) and is second in assists per game (4.9).
NIACC notes: Sophomore Mike Wagner (LaPorte, Ind.) averages 11. 4 points per game … Freshman Sam Skogen (Mason City) averages 8.8 points per game … Freshman Matthew Don (London, England) averages 8.2 points per game.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
What’s next: The NIACC women’s basketball team (3-4 overall) plays at the Grand View College junior varsity in Des Moines at 7 p.m. Monday. Next action after Monday’s game is another nonconference game at Rochester Community Technical College on Dec. 4.
Last time out: The Lady Trojans topped Riverland 60-52 on Nov. 20. Freshman Lateeka Thompson  (Burnsville, Minn.) scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Lady Trojans improved to 3-4 overall.
Among the leaders: Freshman Lashae Brooks (Nett Lake, Minn.) is fourth in the league in scoring (13.1 ppg), fourth in rebounding (9.4 rpg), second in blocked shots (17) and second in field-goal percentage (38 of 70 for 54.3 percent).

WRESTLING
What’s next: The NIACC wrestling team returns to action Saturday at the Simpson College Invitational. Wrestling starts at 9 a.m.
Last time out: The Trojans had three wrestlers place at the Coe College Invitational on Nov. 17. Sophomore Basil Minto (Cape Coral, Fla.) won the 184-pound title, freshman Parker Sturges (Mason City) was sixth at 165 pounds and freshman Shakheim Chapman was sixth at 197 pounds.
For the record: Minto is 6-1 … Sam Solis (freshman, Clarion, Ia.) is 8-4 at 141 pounds … Chapman is 7-4 … Alex Stockton (freshman, Gardner, Ia.) is 5-3 at 285 pounds … Sha-Keno Jenkins (freshman, Ellenwood, Ga.) is 5-4 at 149 pounds.
