NIACC men’s basketball ranked fifth

MASON CITY – The NIACC men’s basketball team moved up to fifth in the NJCAA Division II poll on Tuesday.

NIACC (7-1 overall) was No. 11 in last week’s poll. The Trojans picked up wins over the Waldorf College junior varsity (90-54), Quakerdale Promise Academy (113-97) and Milwaukee Area Tech (102-80).

NIACC plays Riverland Community College at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the NIACC gym. The Trojans wrap up the November portion of their schedule Nov. 26 at the Luther College junior varsity in Decorah.

Sophomore Chris Davis (Colorado Springs, Col.) averages 20.8 points per game to lead the Trojans. Freshman David Humphries (Adelaide, Australia) averages 18.9 points per game and sophomore Mike Wagner (LaPorte, Ind.) averages 11.4 points per game.

DMACC (6-2) climbed into the rankings at No. 17. The Golden Bears host County Upper Academy tonight.

Mott Community College (3-0), which is in Flint, Mich., is ranked No. 1. Louisberg College (North Carolina) is second, Monroe Community College (Rochester, N.Y.) is third and Danville Community College (Illinois) is fourth.
