MN Man Pleads Guilty to Assault Charge

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Andrew Paul Ramsey, age 27, of Ft. Yates, North Dakota, appeared before U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann on November 16, 2012, and pled guilty to count one of an indictment that charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both.

The conviction stems from an incident on July 14, 2012, which occurred at a home Ramsey shared with the victim. The couple began arguing, and the Ramsey chased after the victim with a knife, ultimately stabbing the victim in the abdomen. As a result of this assault, the victim was hospitalized and required surgery to repair her injuries.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for April 15, 2013. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing.
