MN Woman Charged with Making a False Statement to a Federal Agency

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Dupree, South Dakota woman was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 16, 2012, for making a false statement to a federal agency.

Alisa Knight, age 28, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on November 16, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is five years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.

The charge is merely an accusation, and Knight is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley is prosecuting the case. Knight was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has been set for January 8, 2013.
