Awards Piling Up For Hahn

AMES, Iowa – For the second-straight week, and the sixth time this season, Iowa State libero Kristen Hahn has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The Big 12 volleyball record for most weekly awards in a season is seven.

The junior won four consecutive weekly awards, from Sept. 17-Oct. 8, to set a conference record and owns the second-most defensive honors in league history, behind former Cyclone libero Ashley Mass, who amassed 15 weekly awards from 2007-10.

In Iowa State’s sweeps of South Dakota State and Texas Tech last week, Hahn averaged 6.33 digs per set and picked up her sixth match of the season of 25 digs, grabbing exactly 25 against the Jackrabbits, a match-average of 8.33 digs per set. Hahn’s consistent performance throughout the season continues to be reflected in her individual standing in the Big 12 as the only player with more than 5.00 digs per set during the conference schedule – she averages 5.45 digs per set – and in Iowa State’s standing as the best digging team in the Big 12 with an average of 17.37 digs per set.

Not content to contribute only on defense, Hahn added seven assists last week, 1.17 assists per set, and had an ace against Tech, leaving her ninth in Big 12 play this season with an average of 0.28 aces per set.

Texas took home the other weekly awards. Bailey Webster was the top offensive player for the week and Molly McCage was named the top rookie.

Iowa State has a bye on Wednesday and will travel to Oklahoma on Saturday for a match to begin at a time that is yet to be determined.
