San Luis, Ariz. — A Mexican woman was apprehended Monday at the Port of San Luis for attempting to smuggle nearly 12 pounds of cocaine and almost six pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.
When Customs and Border Protection officers referred Fabiola Angulo-Lopez, 24, for an additional inspection of her Ford SUV, a narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the rear cargo area. A further search led to the discovery of six packages of cocaine and another three of methamphetamine hidden in the speaker box. The drugs, with a combined value of approximately $196,000, and vehicle were processed for seizure. The subject was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
Individuals arrested may be charged by complaint, the method by which a person is charged with criminal activity, which raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
