WACO, Texas – In a match that seemed poised to head to overtime, No. 20 Baylor’s Lisa Sliwinski scored with 1:20 remaining to give the Bears a 1-0 win over the Iowa State soccer team Sunday at the Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field. Sliwinski’s goal came during a 24-second stretch when the Bears fired three shots.
Iowa State (10-9 overall, 1-6 Big 12) could not capitalize on a performance by junior goalkeeper Maddie Jobe in which she recorded a career-best 13 saves and held the Bears scoreless for the opening 88:40.
Junior Emily Goldstein had a team-best three shots with one being on goal. With the shutout, junior Jennifer Dominguez’s streak of scoring a goal in three-straight matches was snapped. Dominguez entered the match with seven goals in her last three matches.
Baylor (13-1-4 overall, 4-0-3 Big 12) had a 22-10 shots edge in the match and had five corner kicks to Iowa State’s two.
The two teams remained scoreless at halftime. The Bears had an 11-7 shots edge in the opening stanza.
The Cyclones close out their regular season Friday when they play host to Oklahoma. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. CT at the Cyclone Sports Complex and will also be senior night, honoring the careers of Kelsey Calvert, Megan Longobardi, Amanda Woelfel and Natalie Foulk.
