Late Goal Lifts No. 20 Baylor Past Iowa State

WACO, Texas – In a match that seemed poised to head to overtime, No. 20 Baylor’s Lisa Sliwinski scored with 1:20 remaining to give the Bears a 1-0 win over the Iowa State soccer team Sunday at the Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.  Sliwinski’s goal came during a 24-second stretch when the Bears fired three shots.

Iowa State (10-9 overall, 1-6 Big 12) could not capitalize on a performance by junior goalkeeper Maddie Jobe in which she recorded a career-best 13 saves and held the Bears scoreless for the opening 88:40.

Junior Emily Goldstein had a team-best three shots with one being on goal.  With the shutout, junior Jennifer Dominguez’s streak of scoring a goal in three-straight matches was snapped.  Dominguez entered the match with seven goals in her last three matches.

Baylor (13-1-4 overall, 4-0-3 Big 12) had a 22-10 shots edge in the match and had five corner kicks to Iowa State’s two.

The two teams remained scoreless at halftime.  The Bears had an 11-7 shots edge in the opening stanza.

The Cyclones close out their regular season Friday when they play host to Oklahoma.  The match is set to start at 7 p.m. CT at the Cyclone Sports Complex and will also be senior night, honoring the careers of Kelsey Calvert, Megan Longobardi, Amanda Woelfel and Natalie Foulk.
