Iowa State’s Lenz earns national honor from ESPN

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State wide receiver Josh Lenz has been voted ESPN’s AT&T All-America Player of the Week by fans across the country after leading the Cyclones to a 37-23 win at No. 13 TCU Saturday in Dallas, Texas. Lenz was one of four players nominated by ESPN analysts to a ballot which was voted on by fans across the country.

Lenz caught five passes for a career-high 147 yards against the Horned Frogs Saturday, three for touchdowns. He also threw for another score. The Iowa State victory at TCU ended the Horned Frogs’ nation-leading 12-game win streak and 25-game conference contest winning skein.

Lenz caught TD passes of 51, 74 and 1 yards to beat TCU. Then with 13:33 left in the game, Lenz took the football on a reverse from fullback Jeff Woody and hit tight end Ernst Brun for a 15-yard TD pass. It was the second TD pass of Lenz’ career and gave Iowa State a 30-20 lead.

The trio of scoring catches by Lenz was personal career high. His three TD catches are the most by an Iowa State receiver since Todd Blythe had four TDs at Texas A&M in 2005.
