Exciting Weekend Planned in Downtown Mason City

Mason City’s Central Park has been a busy place this summer.

From Main Street Mason City –

This weekend Downtown Mason City will be alive with activity from Thursday Evening right through to Saturday Night. Market 124 will kick off the weekend with a Grand Opening Celebration at their store at 124 N Delaware starting at Thursday, September 20th at 7:30 pm. The event will include free live music from Sally Barris, Ben Kyle, and Brandon Sampson, as well as a Sustainability presentation and Draft Horses by Tim Carroll. Market 124 sells the works of local artists, as well as offering boutique clothing and personal items and paint your own pottery.

Friday begins the Great River City Festival with North Iowa Diversity Appreciation Team’s Lunch by Central Park. Come join vendors from cultures around the world to sample food, listen to music, and learn about the many cultures represented here in Mason City. The lunch runs from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm on Federal Avenue from State Street to 1st St. Ticket sales go to support the education efforts of NIDAT.

Friday evening, join Main Street Mason City in welcoming local favorites Stream of Consciousness and opener The Good Luck Jonathans to Friday Night Live in that same block of Federal Avenue, Sponsored by First Citizen’s National Bank, Kleen Sweep Constrution, CoffeeCat and Kaplan University. In addition to live music there will be kids activities, food and beer in Central Park, as well as dining options available from many downtown restaurants.

Saturday the fun continues. At 11, 1, and 3 you can come see John Dillinger and his gang rob the First National Bank at State and Federal with professional re-enactors Public Enemies of 1934. In between shows, you can participate in the Great River City Festival Art Crawl or check out a special Mason City Market in Central Park that will feature food, art and fresh produce from 9 am to 4 pm. The art crawl bring local artists in all mediums to display their work for show and sale in 15 downtown businesses across Downtown from MacNider Art Museum to Rhythm Church. You can also head to St. John’s Episcopal Church’s 2012 Classic Bicycle Ride to help the Brain Injury Association of Iowa. Registration is from 8-10 am, and is also available online at www.stjohnsclassic.org for these 22, 50, and 70 mile supported rides. Back at the Church at 120 1st St NE, from noon to 4pm there will be live music from ZooLooDoo and The Sorta Jazz Sextet, as well as a barbeque. Tours of the Historic Park Inn, the only remaining Frank Lloyd Wright Hotel in the world will also be available from Wright on the Park.
