Zach Wahls to headline grassroots kick-off this weekend
DES MOINES – The newly formed Justice Not Politics Action today announced the launch of ‘Yes on Retention’ — a voter outreach campaign to support the retention of Iowa justices and judges on the back of the ballot November 6, in addition to a grassroots kick-off featuring Zach Wahls on Saturday. The campaign continues the ongoing effort of Justice Not Politics to protect Iowa courts and judges from partisan politics.
The following Iowans issued statements in support of the ‘Yes on Retention’ campaign:
“Iowa judges have a strong tradition of ruling based on the law,” said Sally Pederson, former Lieutenant Governor and Chair of Justice Not Politics Action, “Iowa Democrats, Republicans and Independents need to stand together to prevent out-of-state special interest groups from intimidating our judges by threatening to spend millions to oust them. Voting yes for retention on the back of your ballot is a vote to protect our courts, and to stop the groups trying to intimidate judges.”
“Our courts don’t play politics. Our judges did their job with integrity when they upheld the promise of equal protection in the constitution. The Iowa Supreme Court said that my family deserves access to the same rights as any other Iowa family. Iowans support equality under the law, and they’re proud the Supreme Court protected it,” said Zach Wahls, YouTube sensation and author of My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Faith, and What Makes a Family. “Voting yes for our judges will help protect all Iowans from discrimination.”
This election Justice Not Politics Action will be engaging supporters and volunteers to encourage Iowa voters to flip their ballots and vote Yes on retention for judges. The group will execute a voter outreach effort to deliver Yes votes on November 6.
