Chad Johnson charged with domestic battery

By Diana Moskovitz, The Miami Herald –

MIAMI — Broward prosecutors charged former Miami Dolphins player Chad Johnson on Wednesday with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery.

The charge is connected to Johnson’s Aug. 11 arrest at his home in Davie. That night, Johnson got into a fight with his wife, reality TV star Evelyn Lozada. When police arrived, officers said they found a three-inch cut on Lozada’s forehead.

Lozada accused Johnson of head-butting her after the couple began arguing over a drugstore receipt for condoms that Lozada had found in Johnson’s car.

Lozada was taken to a hospital, and Johnson was booked into jail. He was released on bail the next day, and cut from the Dolphins hours later.

Despite being cut, Johnson made a cameo appearance in the finale of the HBO series Hard Knocks, which followed this year’s Dolphins training camp.

“I let the Dolphins down,” said Johnson, adding: “I made that bed, have to lay in it. Somewhere along the way, I lost focus.”

The Broward State Attorney’s Office said in a statement Wednesday that Johnson was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning and was expected to file a written plea of not guilty. He is not expected to be in court, the statement said.
