On Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at approximately 3:25 PM, Waterloo Police were sent to Hoover Intermediate School, 630 Hillcrest Road on report of a student having a gun in his backpack. Officers arrived and met with Hoover Staff and the student. The staff gave a backpack to the officers and inside the backpack was a 1922 semi automatic 7.56 MM handgun. The gun was not loaded and no ammunition was found in the backpack.
The student, Jordan Jeffrey Zigler, age 13, of 3364 West Ridge Drive, Waterloo was taken into custody for Carrying a Weapon on School Grounds. He admitted to bringing the gun to school to show off. No threats were made to any student or staff. He was released to his mother.
I know for a fact that law-abiding Canadian citizens have lots of guns. They don’t carry them, but they have them. They are hidden well so they can’t be taken away. They don’t shoot each other because they don’t want to lose their guns in case the government goes crazy and they need to defend themselves against it or another invading force!

Canadian gun collectors might have them. I believe too that there is some exception for sports use of handguns. But those permits are very difficult to get.
Yes, Canadians have tons of shotguns and hunting rifles, because they hunt as much if not more than Americans, and those are widely available through permits.
Other than that, it is rare indeed for a Canadian to have a handgun, which is illegal under all but very strict circumstances.

He talks about what he likes to see as obvious statistics for reasons of gun controls but ignores the OBVIOUS stats from Chicago and Washington DC. We’ve been having this debate for months he and I. He is as hardheaded as Obama is Kenyan. And JUST as ignorant on this subject as Obama is in his current job. What he really needs is a good “teabaggin”. Lol. It’s all good though. Anywhere between 2-5 million people die per year from drugs directly or indirectly, due to the fact they were killed for their money to buy drugs, killed from an over dose, or were killed because someone else was driving a vehicle and caused another vehicle full of people to die. Uh, oh, looks like drugs kill an awful lot of people. Also the harm to their children living in the household from neglect causes much pain and dysfunction.

Gma Jean 2010 there were 12,996 murders in the US. Of those, 8,775 were caused by firearms. 39 in the UK. In Canada in 2009 there were 173 gun deaths of all kinds. In 2011 there were 31,347 gun deaths in the USA (sorce CDC). I can go on and on. Guns cause way to many senseless deaths.
CDC shows even more deaths from motor vehicles. That’s it, no more cars, etc. people. Also even more deaths from poisoning. Everybody throw your bleach, cleaning chemicals away this minute. We definitely need some cleaning product controls. Who wants to be on the committee? It’s for the good of all mankind dontcha know?

The main point is really if you believe in the Constitution– and the people that do believe think that gun rights should be protected. Maybe you can start your own country with all your progressive ideas and experiment on your own. No where on earth has there ever been a more free or successful nation ever but maybe you and other drones are smarter than the average bear and know what’s best for us all. If you can point to a more successful nation I might half listen but you can’t. Again what about Chicago and D.C. having strict gun laws and out of control gun crime? The fact of the matter is, Twenty-six percent of British citizens have been victimized by violent crime.
Australia leads all industrialized nations with 30 percent of its population victimized.
Canada ranks fifth, with 24 percent of its citizens victimized.
Where are we? Not even in the top 10.

Mike, The UK ranks #39 with 14 murders by gun, Australia ranks # 25 with 59 murders by hand gun, Canada ranks #14 with 144 murders by guns, and USA ranks #4 with 9369 murders by guns. We are only behind S Africa, Columbia, and Thailand. These are free world rankings. So it seems quite obvious that if we had more gun controls murder by guns would decline. Guns kill as much as ignorance kills. You lay a gun down and don’t touch it, it can go forever and never kill anybody. People that say guns kill are ignorant and need to do some research before they open their mouths. It is the person behind the gun that pulls the trigger that kills, if he didn’t have a gun he would find something else.

Charissa, Don’t let these people get to you. The only way they can justify the lack of gun laws and controls is to call people on the other side of the fence names. They are very good at that.
