City Hall to Unveil Conceal Weapons in Public Parks Campaign

MASON CITY – City officials are asking residents who carry firearms to be respectful of families and keep the firearm concealed while visiting Mason City’s public parks. Public parks include all public parks, MacNider Campground, Highland Park Golf Course, and the Mason City Aquatic Center.

The Mason City Park Board and City staff are unveiling a marketing campaign to ensure all patrons feel comfortable and not threatened while utilizing and enjoying the City’s parks.

The slogans include ‘Be considerate – conceal your firearm’; Don’t cause alarm – conceal your firearm’; and The law is your right, but be respectful and cover your firearm’.

Slogans will be broadcast over the EG Channel 4, posted to the City’s website, Facebook page, Twitter, and included with the City’s utility bills.

I’m pro gun and pro choice I guess thats why I’m an independent!

I think all you “CCW” holders need to look at your permit. It isn’t a “concealed carry weapon,” it’s a “permit to carry weapons.” Iowa does not require, nor should it, individuals to “conceal” their weapons. The city is only asking that you do. Feel free not to if that’s your preference, people, there’s really nothing they can do about it that won’t get overturned judicially. The city just doesn’t want to deal with phone calls and complaints anymore.

I’am pro gun but I’am not for cocky guys who think they are cool walking around the parks scaring families. Please respect other people who don’t share your views. Gun control laws do exist and if you piss off enough people things could change. Legally you could walk around the park in a speedo but we don’t want to see that either.

This is real simple, or it should be. Don’t carry guns in public and quit scaring innocent people. I am a gun owner but do not have a carry permit because I just can’t force myself to believe that I need to carry one in my home town. Maybe I am just old fashioned. Now, understand, not having a permit is a personal choice by me. I also believe that we have the right under the constitution to own and carry firearms. I also believe we should show some common sense in where we show them.

I have heard of the Constitution Fred, and also I know the limitations that legally exist upon the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

I find it highly appropriate to keep one’s weapons concealed in certain places, or to restrict their possession in certain places (courthouses, airports, and the like).

Gun owners, and those with CCW’s should take the time to read the entire case of Chicago v. McDonald to understand the legal rights one has under the Constitution as defined by SCOTUS on this subject.

No one should EVER refer to Chicago ANYTHING when referring gun rights!

Have you read the case at all? Do you know what it was about?

It was a Landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United States.

Until you know what it is about, how can you competently comment on it?

Here, I did your homework for you: http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/09pdf/08-1521.pdf

This is a no brainer, just what does CCW mean. For the lack of something, there will always be people that want to be John Peters or Pheobe Ann Moses showing up in parks or on the street.

I too am a CCW holder. I never open carry. It is just dumb.

I found the ones that shows their guns do it for the attention. They keep looking at people and then look at their gun like they are really cool. I believe people should have the right to have guns I do not believe they should be seen around play grounds because it scares kids

Lol. I don’t fear getting knocked out. If you are ABLE to do it great! I’ll shake your hand. BUT, you better be sure you CAN before you try….

I have to agree, if you don’t conceal it your chances of getting to legally blow a criminals brains across the grass are less likely. Keep it hidden and make yourself a more appealing victim.

Which comic book is your favorite?

Iowa issues carry permits not concealed carry permits.

I carry mine concealed for various reasons. I do not feel threatened by open carry.

Would families being offended by same sex couples holding hands in the park bring about the same campaign or openly having an “aggressive” breed of dog on a leash.

Ever heard of a thing called the Constitution?

Move to France! You libtards have done enough damage here.

You shouldn’t feel threatened, I personally would feel more at ease knowing if something were to happen that someone is there that could possibly save your life. I also have a CCW permit. But yes, if your carrying a weapon it should be hidden.

As a CCW holder myself, I second this. Keep it concealed and respect the feelings of the families enjoying the park. They don’t need to feel threatened by your firearm.
