I am an ex-Mohawk and one who would like to see them win as much as anyone. Right now, they aren’t. However, the girls swimming team is doing extremely well and the volleyball team is competitive, cross country has some talent. Football isn’t. I do not blame the coaches – I have friends who live in Carroll and were very sad to see their coach go. They have only good things to say about his coaching ability and his teaching ability. He built Carroll Kemper’s program into a winner and they didn’t want him to leave. Apparently, he wanted a bigger challenge. Give him some time. He has been here 3 years – not enough to turn a 4A program around. Do you think the coaches before him left because they saw a program that was on the rise? No, they left because they saw what was coming up and knew they would be hard-pressed to win with that talent. Nothing against the boys on today’s squad because there aren’t enough good ones to provide the depth a team needs to be successful. Stand by your team. That is what a real fan is.

Did the U or Iowa stand behind Steve Alford or Todd Lickliter? Did ISU stand behind Jim Criner or Dan McCarney? A fan can criticize a poor performing team and still be a fan.

As a fan of Mohawk Football I could not agree more! Give the coach some time!! However, let’s be clear. SOME (more than 1) of the past coaches have not departed because of a lack of talent; they were forced to leave because of a lack of support from the parents and the administration.

It should be noted that none of the Mohawk football teams have won this year (Freshman,Sophmore, JV, or Varsity). The Freshman lost to the Go-Hawks 60-0 (it was 60-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter and the Go-Hawks let up).
I predict Waukee to score over 50 on the Mohawks Friday night.

The offensive scheme is predicatable and a mismatch for the talent on the mohawhs. You need a mobile running back type of quarter back for this type of offense along with good run blocking. our quarterback is tall, lanky, slow and should be more of a drop back passer type.

Yes these boys have worked and continue to work hard. Right now, 5:30 on Labor Day my son has been at football practice since 2:00. They practice 6 days a week 3-4 hours each time. They should be winning, they are good! They need to be given some different plays!

What are the players doing for 3-4 hours a day 6 days a week? That seems a bit excessive for high school football. Quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality.

What do you suggest the AD and Super do about it? This is the coach’s 3rd year here and he apparently lost several coaches that resigned who had been on staff for many years. Are the kids putting in the work they need to be competitive? Who are these new coaches?

I hear you, but you better get used to it. You know how they say “Follow the money?” Well, take a look at what the superintendent and Athletic Director are doing about it. Then look at their salaries. The school board should be asking for their plans to improve the situation to make us at least competitive.

I’m passed frustrated and now on to resigned. I went to this game. We had more players and our players were bigger. It is just sad.

My heart goes out to the boys. I know they work hard. They just aren’t given the coaching necessary to be successful.

Sigh.
