Minnesota man admits he sexually abused 4-month-old

Emily Gurnon, Pioneer Press –

A Maplewood man has pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct involving a 4-month-old male relative.

Errick Noe Rios, 24, entered the plea Monday, Aug. 20, in Ramsey County District Court. He is to be sentenced Oct. 2.

The other charges against Rios, which included third-degree assault and domestic assault by strangulation, are expected to be dismissed at sentencing.

Rios was arrested after Maplewood police were called July 25 to check on the welfare of an infant in the 1500 block of County Road B, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint alleged:

Rios was in the residence with the baby when officers arrived. The boy was “swaddled in layers of blankets and clothing inside a hot and muggy bedroom.” Police saw bruises and scabs on his body. He was taken to Children’s Hospital in St. Paul.

Rios provided a statement to Maplewood police. He admitted he had hit the baby, saying he had trouble managing his anger. He said he squeezed the infant’s stomach, bit the boy’s face and held his mouth over the running faucet.

An exam found that the baby had cracked ribs, in addition to the bruising and scratches.

On Aug. 4, Rios came back to the police department to tell them he had performed oral sex on the boy.

Rios’ father, Noah Rodriguez Rios of Woodbury, was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in 2002. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
