AMES, Iowa – For the second-straight year, Iowa State has been chosen to finish second in the Big 12 behind reigning conference champion Texas.
Texas was the unanimous choice for the top spot in the conference with Iowa State receiving a first place vote from Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott, who is not allowed to vote for his own team.
The Cyclones finished behind the Longhorns last season with a 13-3 record in league play, including two losses to Texas, while posting their best RPI in program history, ranked third in the nation behind Illinois and Nebraska.
Iowa State standouts Kristen Hahn, Alison Landwehr and Jamie Straube were each named to the preseason all-conference team earlier this week.
Kansas State ranked third in the preseason poll, followed by Oklahoma, Baylor, Kansas, TCU, Texas Tech and West Virginia.
Iowa State begins its quest for a seventh-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance on Aug. 24 against Cincinnati at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Cyclones will host their annual Cardinal and Gold intrasquad match on Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. CST at Hilton Coliseum.
