Trio Named Preseason All-Big 12

AMES, Iowa – Cyclones Kristen Hahn, Alison Landwehr and Jamie Straube have been named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the league office announced Tuesday. Iowa State, Texas and Kansas State led the awards with three nods each and Landwehr was one of seven players unanimously selected to the team.

The reigning Big 12 Libero of the Year, Hahn led the conference with 5.44 digs per set in 2011 en route to an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honorable mention. Hahn was the Big 12’s Defensive Player of the Week four times as a sophomore.

Landwehr earned AVCA First Team All-America honors and was selected to the All-Big 12 top team a season ago after pacing the league with 11.46 assists per set on the year and 11.77 assists per set against Big 12 teams. The St. Louis, Mo. native ranked 15th in the nation in assists in 2011.

A two-time AVCA All-America honorable mention and two-time All-Big 12 first team selection, Straube hit .323 in 2011, leading the Cyclones for the second-straight season. As a freshman in 2009, Straube was a unanimous pick for the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Texas Longhorns Bailey Webster and Molly McCage were preseason selections for the conference’s top player and freshman, respectively.

The Big 12 preseason awards are chosen by the league coaches. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.

On Wednesday, the Big 12 will announce the volleyball preseason poll.

Iowa State will hold its annual Cardinal and Gold match on Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. CST at Hilton Coliseum before the regular season begins against Cincinnati on Aug. 24.
