BRIEF: Iowa GOP increases voter registration advantage

James Q. Lynch, CR Gazette –

From a Media Release:

Iowa Republicans continue to make gains in voter registration, expanding their lead over Democrats to more than 21,000 voters in July.

The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office reported there are now 620,584 voters registered as Republicans, compared to 598,995 Democrats.

The July increase comes after the Republican Party of Iowa surpassed the Iowa Democratic Party in voter registration in March for the first time since 2006. Republicans in Iowa now hold an 21,589 voter registration advantage on the Democrats.

It’s quite a turnaround from January 2009 when Barack Obama was inaugurated and Iowa Democrats boasted a 110,000 voter registration advantage.

“Three years and a half years of President Obama’s failed policies have left the Republican Party of Iowa stronger than ever,” said Republican Party of Iowa Chairman, A.J. Spiker. “Iowans are tired of broken promises, high unemployment and especially the way President Obama has been doling out taxpayer money to his friends and campaign donors.”
