The Sports Mod race consisted of the racers that frequent the I-35 Speedway on a regular basis. There were nineteen cars in the Feature racing after the $750 payout. With a fifteen lap race ahead of him, Dan Tenold, started in pole position. He started in the lead and stayed there throughout every lap and took the checked flag and big payday. Nate Chodur and George Nordman finished in a respectful second and third position.

“Late Models is just a name of the Class that these cars race in. There’s Fords and Chevys, just like all Classes, but they have to stay within a certain set of rules. There are special specifications that goes with racing a Late Model Sports Mod,” said Jason Uttler’s Team. They were driving through, and decided to race. “We’re from Columbus Junction, Iowa, and got signed up late because we didn’t know for sure if we were going to compete. The top payout is $1500, so we decided to stay”.

Uttler, #31, started in Twelfth position, right in the middle of the twenty-four car Feature battle and finished in eighth.

Ray Guss Jr., #58, would be the man of the hour, taking First Place, Victory Land and $1500. Guss came to Mason City from Milan, Illinios. Jeff Aikey, # 77, from Cedar Falls, Iowa came in second and Justin Kay, #15K, from Wheatland, Iowa, came in third.

Most of the Late Model racers were from Iowa, except for nine from Illinios and one from Wisconson.
