Construction workers toil on 4th to ready MC schools

MASON CITY -Work continues on the Mason City schools at the High School / John Adams campus.

Workers were spotted toiling in the blazing heat on the Fourth of July, laying brick, leveling curbs, chugging water.  John Adams middle school must be ready by the first day of school later this summer; it will serve the 9th through 12th grades as the High School construction project is launched fully.

Eighth graders will continue to attend classes in the annex classrooms just west of Mohawk Stadium, and seventh graders will continue to be served by the former Madison Elementary building.

The east entrance to the High School is now completely gone.  A new entrance/exit is under construction about 150 yards west.  (See photos.)  It has a turn lane for cars turning west onto Highway 122.

Thanks to our Mason City Grounds and Custodial Crews and our Athletic Team Volunteers, Coaches and Parents, the move of furniture and classroom materials from the high school two-story is completed. Randy Meyer, Supervisor for Grounds and Transportation organized this effort.

Phase 3B – Henkel Construction – John Adams MS
– Remodel work and new piping for the High School water heaters is progressing.
– HVAC and electrical rough in above ceilings in the music rooms are ongoing. Spray foam insulation and new windows in the long hallway near the office will happen in the next two weeks.
– The new Music wing roof and roof drain piping will start this week.
– The remaining locker accessories will be installed this week as well as main entrance vestibule doors at JAMS.
– Above ceiling piping and insulation is progressing in Area A of JAMS.

Phase 4 Holland Contracting – FEMA Safe Room
– Perimeter wood blocking and roofing will start in the next two weeks.
– Ductwork and roof drain piping are progressing in the large multipurpose room.
– The stairway from the Set Shop to the 2nd floor is being installed.
– Brick at the North side is complete and masons will be finishing the south side this week.

Phase 5: Dean Snyder Construction – High School Two Story and New Entrance
– Lower level mechanical demolition is progressing.
– Interior demolition is ongoing at both levels of the High School 2-story.
– Flooring removal is complete at 2nd floor and is starting at the 1st floor.
– Storm sewer work is progressing at the SE parking lot. Concrete paving work will begin in the next two weeks.
