3 Hawkeyes garner preseason recognition

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa defensive backs Micah Hyde and Tanner Miller were named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Defensive Back Trophy Watch List. In addition, Hyde and wide receiver Keenan Davis were selected to the Blue Ribbon Preseason All-Conference Team.

Hyde (6-foot-1, 190) was also named to the CFPA Preseason Watch List a year ago. The senior, who hails from Fostoria, Ohio, started the first two games at free safety last year and the final 11 games at cornerback. He earned second team All-Big Ten honors by league media after recording 72 total tackles and sharing the team lead with three interceptions.

Miller (6-foot-2, 201) started the final 11 games at free safety last season. The junior recorded 76 total tackles and shared the team lead with three interceptions. He was named the national Defensive Back of the Week by CFPA for his play in Iowa’s 41-31 victory over Northwestern. The Kalona, Iowa, native tied the school record with a 98-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Davis, a senior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, started at wide receiver in all 12 games he played a year ago. He recorded 50 receptions for 713 yards and four touchdowns. Davis (6-foot-3, 215) ranked eighth in the Big Ten in receptions per game (4.2) and ninth in receiving yards per contest (59.4).

The official CFPA announcement will take place January 9, 2013.

Iowa opens its 2012 season Sept. 1 against Northern Illinois at Soldier Field in Chicago.  Kickoff is 2:30 p.m., CT (ESPNU).
