Suspected US drone attack kills six in Pakistan

By Farrukh Azeem

ISLAMABAD — A unmanned US aircraft targeted a compound in Pakistan’s north-western region along the Afghan border, killing six people on Sunday, an intelligence official said.

The official said on condition of anonymity that a drone fired two missiles into a compound, destroying it completely.

“We have reports that locals have pulled out six charred bodies and three or four injured from the debris, while the identities of the dead are yet to be determined,” he said.

The toll could not be confirmed independently as the area is remote and inaccessible for the rescue and media workers.

The predawn airstrike took place in Shawal area southwest of Miransha, the main town of North Waziristan, one of the seven tribal districts where Taliban rebels are active.

On Tuesday, at least four people were killed in a drone strike in the same district.
