Golf Programs To Benefit From New Performance Center

AMES, Iowa – Big things are happening for the Iowa State golf programs. Their performances on the links proved that this past year. For the first time since 1996, both the men’s and women’s golf teams advanced to NCAA Regional competition in the same year.

The Iowa State Athletics Department has noted the accomplishments of both programs and is making every effort it can to keep both teams on their current paths of success. Iowa State announced today its access to a brand new state-of-the-art golf performance center just south of Ames scheduled to be completed in November of 2012.

Local developer Dickson Jensen is building the facility on his property and leasing it exclusively to the Iowa State Athletics Department. The performance center, which is currently under construction at an estimated cost of $2 million, will be used solely by the Iowa State golf teams and will be considered one of the finest in the nation.

The 16-acre new home of Cyclone golf will provide both teams all of the amenities they need for individual development and a place to attract top-notch recruits. The performance center is planned to include:

– Six heated bays
– Indoor putting green
– Team lounge
– Locker room
– Club repair room
– Practice range 400 yards long and 200 yards wide
– 360-degree tee stations for all wind directions
– Two fairways with multiple driving lines
– Nine different greens
– Two wedge complexes- greens and sand pits

Jensen has hired world-renowned architect Keith Foster to design the complex. Foster and his team have provided renovations to Augusta National, Southern Hills Country Club and Colonial Country Club. Some of Foster’s original designs include: The Quarry (San Antonio, Texas), ranked as the top public golf course in Texas by Golf Digest in 1996 and 1997; SunRidge Canyon (Fountain Hills, Ariz.), ranked No. 42 on Golf Magazine’s top-100 public courses, and The Harvester (Rhodes, Iowa), ranked as the best golf course in Iowa multiple times.
