Few details on death of pregnant Iowa woman

Mark Newman, Ottumwa Courier, Iowa –

AGENCY — Authorities are being cautious in releasing information as they continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred southwest of Agency.

Lisa Techel, 23,  was killed at her and her husband Seth’s home at 8723 Fox Hills Road. Police received a 911 call about a shooting Saturday morning.

According to an obituary published in the Ottumwa Courier, both Lisa and her unborn child, “Zoey Maria,” died on May 26 at her home.

The Wapello County Sheriff’s department and DCI executed a search warrant Sunday at the Fox Hills Road residence as part of their death investigation.

Lisa was a reserve deputy with the Wapello County Sheriff’s department and had worked as a correctional officer. Her father is a deputy sheriff in Wapello County, her uncle is a dispatcher with the department and her husband was recently hired as a correctional officer at the Wapello County Jail.

Neighbors in the rural Wapello County location, near Lake Arrowhead, said Sunday that rumors were spreading about what may have happened, but acknowledged some had to be untrue, since there are several very different stories circulating.

Police have not even officially stated whether the incident was an accident or a crime.

However, that has not stopped Internet users from expressing concerns. They have posted questions asking why authorities won’t reveal if they have a suspect in custody, since that could be a matter of public safety.

A request by the Courier for further information on that subject was denied. However,  Chief Deputy Mark Miller did say he wanted to assure the public that no one else appeared to be in any danger related to this incident.
