Local woman pleads guilty to sexual abuse

John Mangalonzo, The Hawk Eye, Burlington, Iowa –

A Burlington woman authorities said had a sexual relationship with a teenage boy, has accepted an agreement from Des Moines County prosecutors.

Lynsey Rae-Ann Brobston pleaded guilty Monday to one count of third-degree sexual abuse.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors and Brobston’s attorney will ask a judge to suspend what would amount to 10 years in prison tagged with the offense and place the 21-year-old woman on probation for five years.

Brobston also will be subject to sex offender registry requirements, residency restriction and the possibility of being on parole supervision for life.

The woman’s lovelife came under fire when police went to a report of a domestic dispute between Brobston and the boy in January in the 1200 block of Virginia Street.

Officers soon found out the two had a relationship.

The boy told police she had been dating Brobston a couple of months after they met, and she was well aware of how old he was.

Authorities said, according to the boy, he and Brobston had sex on several occasions.

Brobston acknowledged the relationship and told officers she knew having sexual encounters with the boy was illegal because they were more than four years apart.

She, however, noted she couldn’t end the relationship because she had fallen in love with the boy.

Brobston is set to be sentenced July 2.
