CEDAR RAPIDS — It will likely be some time before employees of the General Mills plant in southwest Cedar Rapids learn if they will be affected by job cuts announced Tuesday by the Minnespolis-based company.
In a move to slash costs, improve efficiencies and focus on key growth strategies, General Mills said it will eliminate about 850 jobs throughout its global operations. No specifics were provided.
“We did not detail impact by location today,” said Kirstie Foster, General Mills’ director of corporate public relations. “Further details will follow as decisions are communicated.”
The Cedar Rapids plant at 4800 Edgewood Rd. SW employs about 600. General Mills officials have touted the facility in the past as one of the company’s most efficient plants.
