LOS ANGELES — A day after taking his company public and raising his wealth to more than $19 billion, Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg married his longtime girlfriend.
The 28-year-old entrepreneur posted the news on his Facebook timeline Saturday evening, adding the life event, “Married Priscilla Chan.”
Chan and Zuckerberg — who posted a wedding photo in which he’s wearing a suit jacket rather than his usual hoodie — had been dating since the early days of Facebook. They met as Harvard students and have been together more than nine years, according to the Associated Press.
Fewer than 100 people attended the wedding, and those guests arrived under the impression that they would be celebrating Chan’s recent graduation from the University of California, San Francisco’s medical school, according to a tweet from a Huffington Post editor.
The wedding was held in the backyard of Zuckerberg’s Palo Alto home. Chan’s ring featured a “very simple ruby,” a source told the Associated Press.
The wedding capped a busy week for Zuckerberg.
On Friday, he rang the Nasdaq Stock Market’s bell from Facebook headquarters in California on his company’s first day of trading on the public market.
