KABUL — Gunmen killed a senior peace negotiator and former Taliban leader in the Afghan capital Kabul Sunday, officials said.
Arsala Rahmani, a member of the High Peace Council established by President Hamid Karzai, was shot dead Sunday morning, an official with council told dpa.
Rahmani is the second senior council member killed in less than a year. Chief negotiator and former resident Burhanudin Rabbani was killed by a suicide attacker at his home in September.
Rahmani headed the council’s committee on Taliban prisoners.
“We are collecting information right now, we don’t know exactly how he was shot,” a security official said.
