Lane restrictions on southbound I-380 near Waterloo begin May 14

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – May 7, 2012 – Road construction work on southbound Interstate 380 will require motorists to share the roadway with opposing traffic on northbound I-380 from the west interchange of Interstate 380/U.S. 20/U.S. 218 near Evansdale to the east interchange of U.S. 20/I-380 near Gilbertville beginning Monday, May 14, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

The southbound on- and off-ramps will be closed at the River Forest Road interchange and also at the Raymond Road/Black Hawk County Road V-49 interchange.

The Evansdale Drive interchange will remain open. Median crossovers will allow for access to both northbound and southbound on- and off-ramps at the Evansdale Drive interchange.

Traffic delays are possible due to the lane closures. This portion of the construction project is expected to be completed by mid-September.

Due to the reduced number of road lanes, travelers in the area are strongly encouraged to find alternative routes while the project is underway to avoid any delays and traffic congestion. Traffic may back up beyond the limits of the work area and motorists should be prepared to come to a complete stop.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
