Village Cooperative Resident-Owners Elect Governing Board

MASON CITY MAY 10, 2012 – Resident-owners of the 50-unit Village Cooperative of Mason City met recently to elect officers to their governing board.  They include President Ann Kuhlman, First Vice President Lowell Hicok, and Second Vice President Ted Enabnit as well as Secretary Audrey Huff and Treasurer Ron Stroup whose terms continue.  Kuhlman succeeds Ron Norlinger, formerly of Osage, the Coop’s first president.

The Village Cooperative is a resident-owned multi-unit housing complex for adults age 55 and older.  Resident-owners first began moving into their new homes at the end of September, 2010, and all units were purchased and occupied soon afterwards.

“We’ve become friends and neighbors over the months since then,” notes Kuhlman.  “In fact, we’re a 50-unit neighborhood.  People gather for coffee in the Commons Room, help each other when needed, and socialize according to individual tastes.  The first unit to become available for re-sale recently went on the market and we’re eager to see who our newest neighbor will be.”

The Village Cooperative of Mason City and others in Marshalltown and the Dubuque suburb of Asbury are the first member-owned housing cooperatives in Iowa.  All three were developed by Real Estate Equities of St. Paul, MN.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Mason City Cooperative is invited to call the office at 641-423-5840 between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm Monday through Friday.
