MASON CITY – The Kinney Pioneer Museum season opened this week. You can experience life on the Iowa frontier through the vintage exhibits and living history at the museum. There is a pioneer village with a one-room school house, a log cabin, a old jail and a blacksmith shop.
The Museum has set up special event days where there are demonstrations of pioneer crafts and trades. The first special event was today (Sunday) from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. They hosted Ice Cream Day, where homemade ice cream was made.
The sign outside the museum displays the hours for the summer. They are open Tuesday thru Sunday, 1 pm to 5 pm from May to September.
Group Tours are offered at regular hours, plus other times by appointment, for motor coach tours only. Reservations are available with a two week notice. Group tour size is a minimum of ten and a maximum of fifty-five. Group admission rate is $3.00 for adults, $1.00 for children under 12 and a complimentary admission for driver and escort for groups of 25 or more. Handicap accessibility, motor coach parking, and restroom facilities are available. The length of the tours are sixty minutes minimum and ninety minutes average time.
