FORT DODGE, Iowa – Southwestern softball took advantage of four NIACC errors and seven strikeouts by Leah Kipfer to drop NIACC on Friday in the second round of the Region XI Tournament, 6-2.
Cassie Pappas (Fr., Mason City, IA) had two RBI on two hits in the game for the Trojans, while Beth Mildenhall (Fr., Eldora, IA) added three hits. NIACC (12-32) outhit the Spartans 7-4.
The Spartans (42-19) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but NIACC scored twice in the top of the fifth. Southwestern scored a pair in the bottom half of that inning and added one more in the sixth for the final score.
The loss moves NIACC into the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament. They will play Ellsworth at 1 p.m. on Saturday. NIACC went 1-3 against the Panthers in conference play.
If the Trojans win, they will play the winner of the Iowa Central-Kirkwood contest at 3 p.m.
