ANKENY, Iowa – The NIACC women’s golf team trails tournament leading DMACC by 24 strokes after the first day of the Region XI Tournament.
The Trojans shot 399 during a windy first round of the two-day tournament. DMACC leads by just one stroke over Iowa Western and two over Iowa Central in the team standings.
Mikayla Smith (Fr., Mason City, IA) fought through the conditions to continue her solid play by shooting a 91 to end the first day in fifth place individually. Alexandria Eckenrod (Fr., Mason City, IA) also is within striking distance of nationals with a top-10 finish at 93.
Sarah Steinauer (Fr., Clarinda, IA) shot a 107 and Moriah Sherman (Fr., Charles City, IA) shot a 108 to round out NIACC’s scoring.
The winning team and the top-10 finishers will advance to the NJCAA Nationals held in Daytona Beach, Florida on May 14-17.
