Men’s Golf: Iowa State Sixth After 36 Holes at Big 12 Championships

TRINITY, Texas – Iowa State was steady on the first day of the Big 12 Men’s Golf Championships, standing in sixth place after 36 holes at at Whispering Pines Golf Club. The Cyclones posted round of 307 and 299 for a 606 total. Texas A&M is in first place with a team score of 582.

Sam Daley led the Cyclones Friday with rounds of 75 and 71, respectively, to sit in a tie for ninth place (146). After a rough first round of 80, Scott Fernandez recovered for a strong even par 72 and 24th in the individual race at 152 thru 36 holes. Nate McCoy is not far behind as his rounds of 77-76 put him in a tie for 28th.

Oklahoma’s Abraham Ancer leads the race for the Big 12 individual title after carding rounds of 72 and 69 for a 36-hole total of 141.

Iowa State takes to the course tomorrow for 18 holes, with action getting underway at 8 a.m. CDT.
