by Matt Marquardt –

MASON CITY – Tuesday in Mason City’s Central Park, the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event was held to promote sexual assault awareness.

Th event was again sponsored by the North Iowa Domestic & Sexual Abuse Community Coalition.

A presentation was given by Mason City Police Chief Michael Lashbrook.  He detailed the disturbing statistics of sexual abuse women endure in America.

“Sexual violence is epidemic,” Lashbrook said.  “National statistics show that 1 in 5 women have been raped in their lifetime.”

Men from law enforcement and other walks of life attended and participated in the event wearing women’s shoes to show their symbolic support for bringing an end to sexual abuse.

A walk was held later that afternoon in Clear Lake as well.

I can’t believe you are turning an event with such an important message into a smear campaign. They participated, did you? Grow up already.

OK, I am no fan of bookmeyers but geeze he did walk and took a stand for woman.

Of course Bookmeyer was first in line, he’s a busy man ya know. Can you sense the sarcasm in my quote???

Looking at the size of Wolf Bowers, I’m surprised him and Bookmeyer weren’t fighting for that first in line spot at the lunch.

Why are you attacking Wolf Bowers? Did he get elected to the city council, and I missed it?

I don’t like him. Have met the man personally and not impressed. So?????

Actually both Mayor Bookmeyer and Councilman Kuhn participated this year. City Administrator Brent Trout also walked. I believe all 3 participated last year as well.

Kuhn man up for this one? Oohhhh. Car riding is all for him. Any of our council or mayor show? oohhh.

I was thinking the same thing. It is sad that not one person showed up from the council or the Mayor. Action speaks louder than words is what my Mama taught me.

Obviously YOU weren’t there, or you would have seen them.

@ Obviously – you nailed it on the head, nor did they even watch the video.

I had a post-it note on my desk. It said “The first post on this thread will be uneducated and attacking the city government”
