High speed motorcycle chase ends in arrest

MASON CITY – At approximately 4:10 pm on April 24, 2012 a Clear Lake police officer attempted to stop a motorcycle at 1st Ave N and N 8th Street in Clear Lake. The driver of the motorcycle refused to stop and attempted to elude police northbound on N 8th Street. The officer pursued the fleeing motorcycle as it weaved in and out of traffic at speeds in excess of 75 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. The motorcycle continued to accelerate as it left the city limits of Clear Lake to speeds well over 100 miles per hour.

The motorcycle continued to flee north of Clear Lake on Grouse Ave and then east onto County Road B-20, with the Clear Lake officer still in pursuit. A Mason City officer went to the intersection of B-20 and N Eisenhower Ave to prevent the motorcycle from coming into Mason City. When the motorcycle reached N Eisenhower Ave, it continued east on B-20 until reaching the intersection with Highway #65 where other Mason City officers were waiting. Initially it appeared as if the motorcycle driver was going to stop, but as he approached the Mason City officers he accelerated around their squads and through the ditch until he was again fleeing north on Highway #65. The Mason City officers were able to get the license plate number of the motorcycle and identified the registered owner as living at 1007 11th Street in Mason City. Officers saw the motorcycle turn east onto B-20 at which point they discontinued the pursuit.

At 4:24 pm a Mason City officer observed the suspect motorcycle in Mason City in the 800 block of N Rhode Island. When the driver saw the officer he stopped the motorcycle and fled down an alley on foot. The address of the registered owner was only about four blocks away. When Mason City Officers went to the address of the registered owner they were met by 18 year old Cody Studer who initially denied being the driver of the motorcycle. After some additional questioning; Studer admitted to being the driver. The motorcycle was impounded (see photo, above) and Studer was taken to the Cerro Gordo County jail.

Cody Studer was charged by Mason City Police with charges of; Driving While Barred, Failure to have SR-22 Insurance, Driving Under Suspension and Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle. Studer was also charged by the Clear Lake Police with; Speeding, No Driver’s License, Driving under Suspension, No Insurance, Reckless Driving and Eluding a Law Enforcement Official at speeds in excess of 25 miles an hour over the posted speed limit, a class D felony.

SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

Pee Eater, Oh that’s right, you showed em’ who was boss because you are never wrong.

“I will follow up at the police department to find out why the officer was pulling this kid over to begin with.” Please be sure and report back to all of us on the results of your investigation too. If they taser you, would you mind sharing about that too? Thanks!

I think it was because he didn’t have any doors on his vehicle.

Its funny I see more cars speeding and driving recklessly than motorcycles everyday but no one on here complains about them. How many motorcycles have killed people driving cars? ZERO

I should say Iam not defending this idiot! He makes all responsible mototcyclists look bad. If he had killed himself he would have got what he deserved. Just seems to be alot of biased people on here when it comes to motercycles. We are not all like this kid.

Peter. do all the guys with stock pipes have a big penis? That would be a big selling point. Keep your stock pipes and get a lifetime supply of extense!

Because they know he’s not supposed to be driving period end of story. They spotted the bike and tried to pull him over and of course he ran.

Why does law enforcement pursue these petty violators, endangering life and limb for minor offenses? I’m glad Mason City’s police showed the proper restraint and just went to the guy’s home and made the arrest. Good on ya MCPD. CLPD not so much.

It’s hardly petty what he’s done, AGAIN. And like a scared little rabbit he runs home to the grandparents house, who I’m sure bailed him out AGAIN. All he had to do was stop, but no, instead he chooses to endanger others. His behavior should have been controlled years ago, but he has too many enablers.

I believe that eluding police is cause enough to pursue the perpetrator. As if he had something to hide. What we know is, he had exhibited bad behavior by not only eluding, but erratic driving. Thus before reaching high speeds, he was a danger to the public.

The behavior is exhibited by large numbers of motorcyclists as it is on the streets of Mason City. But as I have said, there are not enough police to patrol ever street every hour of every day to erradicate the problem.

It is a shame so many people are that selfish, and unsafe. It gives you a barometer of society, no? Then when laws are enforced, certain people feel ill used.

Cody for crips sake get your act together before it’s too late! The grandparents need to stop bailing you out everytime you get in trouble, all they are doing is enabling your bad behavior. This is going to catch up with you at some point and you or your family won’t like the end results. Seriously.

Wasnt he involved in an accident weaving in and out of a funeral persession a few months ago? With ears like that im surprised the bike doesnt fly. New name “DUMBO”

what a dufus. No regard for the law or for the safety of those around him. Get the scrapper ready, they will need it to clean up his carcass someday.

Cody, you moron! It’s people like you that give other motorcyclists a bad reputation. I hope they keep your bike and sell it at Sheriff’s auction. You certainly shouldn’t have it anymore. You’re damn lucky you didn’t kill yourself.

He’ll get a slap on the wrist… no room at the INN…
