Drug checkpoint nets 11 arrests at I-80 rest stop

TIFFIN – A drug decoy checkpoint conducted by the Iowa City Police Department caught several travelers along Interstate 80 on Friday, April 20, 2012.

At least four individuals were arrested for possession of marijuana, as well as one arrest for driving while barred, at the eastbound I-80 rest area in Tiffin. At least seven others were charged and released for possession of drug paraphernalia.

John C. Clark, 60, of Louisville, Ky., and Graham P. Dailey, 26, of Shaftsbury, Vt., were both charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated as well as marijuana possession after admitting to officers they had smoked marijuana in their cars.

Kenny Ray Jr. Purnell, 22, of Las Vegas, Nev., was charged with possession with intent to deliver when officers discovered 15 pounds of marijuana heat sealed in his rented car. A passenger in Purnell’s car, Jayson Earl-Lopaka Wann, 23, of Las Vegas, Nev., was also arrested.
