MacNider holds successful fundraiser at Roller City

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

MASON CITY – Roller City hosted a Fundraiser, A Night for the Museum, for the MacNiders Arts Festival, “Trashtastic” April 13th.

“I’m happy with the turnout,” said Edith Blanchard, Director for the MacNider Museum. “With the weather getting warmer, there’s more competition out there for the kids to do, so this is actually a pretty good turnout.”

Once a month, Roller City has a fundraiser for non-profit organizations and one half of the proceeds goes to that organization.

Tyler Anderson and Thaddeus Seydel, co-owners of Roller City, said, “We’re just here hanging out, having a good time with the MacNider Fundraiser.” Thaddeus was busy keeping everyone happy by playing the music that everybody likes to skate to, including the hokey pokey.

Joe Byerly, a nine-year-old MacNider fan (pictured), was there enjoying the skating party. “Joe is a big help to the Museum,” said Blanchard. “He takes classes each semester, volunteers for the Band Fest Float and he entered the Ceramics Show. He is one of our best supporters!”

Jen Klein, Development Assistant of the MacNider Museum, was there making sure that the kids were signing their names to get entered into a drawing for a prize basket filled with goodies. There were also t-shirts being sold with the MacNider logo on them.

For the MacNider Arts Festival on June 9th, they are asking people to grab their lawn chairs or blankets and come join the party at the Charles H. MacNider Museum from 9 am to 5 pm. It’s free admission and will include good food, live music, free pancake breakfast (9-10:30 am), local and regional artist market, lawn art contest and art activities for the kids.

The Museum is located at 303 2nd St. SE in Mason City. Their phone number is 641-421-3666. You can visit the MacNider Art Museum Facebook fan page for up-to-the-minute Festival information and if you would like to volunteer for the festival, you can call 641-420-1451.
