T&F: Edmond qualifies for 400-hurdle finals at Kansas Invite

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Tanesha Edmond (So., St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) has advanced to the 400-meter hurdles finals after recording the seventh fastest time during that event at the Kansas Relays.

She placed second in her heat in a time of 1:02.30.  She clocked in about two seconds behind the top time of 1:00.47 set by Natalie Morerod of Wichita State.   Edmond will race against five Division I runners in the finals tomorrow.

Edmond also fell just short of qualifying for the 400-meter finals with a ninth place finish.  Her run of 58.12 was just .16 seconds off the qualifying times.

Hillary Garvey (Fr., Hudson, IA) and Abby Muhlenbruch (Fr., Latimer, IA) also ran in the 400.  Garvey finished 27th in 1:00.93, and Muhlenbruch was 31st in 1:03.27.

In the high jump, Edmond and McKenna Wragge (Fr., Hampton, IA) both competed, but did not place.

RJ Harris (So., Des Moines, IA) placed eighth in the men’s steeplechase finals in 9:44.93, which was 15 seconds off the winning time 9:29.11 from unattached runner Sam Dickerson.

Lance Maxwell (So., Racine, WI) finished 22nd overall and second in his flight in the shot put with a 14.95 meter (49’0¾”).  He will compete again in the discus tomorrow.

Rounding out NIACC’s Friday competitors, the men’s 4×400 team of Eric Peters (Fr., Sioux City, IA), Nako Omot (Fr., Worthington, MN), OJ Ojullu (Fr., Worthington, MN), and Andy Corcoran (So., Sumner, IA) finished 23rd in 3:25.14.

The Trojans will continue competing at the Kansas Relays tomorrow.
