Seatbelt sting injustice: Government mining money

Op-ed by Otis Lewis

Thomas Jefferson was our third President, one of the framers of our Constitution, and one of the principle authors of our “Declaration Of Independence”.

Jefferson is also quoted as saying,  “When injustice becomes law, then resistance becomes duty.”

From our Declaration Of Independence, one of the ‘statements of fact’ presented for the need of our Declaration Of Independence was:  “HE (meaning the government)” HAS ERECTED A MULTITUDE OF NEW OFFICES, AND SENT HITHER SWARMS OF OFFICERS TO HARASS OUR PEOPLE AND EAT OUT THEIR SUBSTANCE.

Another statement of fact in our Declaration Of Independence says:  “HE” HAS AFFECTED TO RENDER THE MILITARY INDEPENDENT OF AND SUPERIOR TO THE CIVIL POWER.

One can observe, that our local authorities have become insidious and more like military and a secret police.  At this time in our history it is apparent “we the people” need a new and more modern approach to law enforcement, complete with clear boundaries that define just how far and intrusive they can get into our personal and financial lives under the ruse, “it’s the law”.  The officers carrying out their duties probably don’t see anything wrong with their actions, but they should.  At some level, administration clearly understands they are “mining money” while “upholding the law.”  This is insidious!

My point here is, our State Patrol/Sheriff’s/and Police Departments have become independent to our Civil Power and needs to be brought back under the control of the people.  John Q. Public is far removed from any input and control of local authorities.  This is very alarming and upon further scrutiny needs serious oversight and immediate change.

The seat belt sting in Mason City was truly an injustice.  The seat belt sting is only one of many injustices that we witness every day coming at us from every level of government.  Forcing people to buy health insurance, forcing parents to pay for their children’s heath insurance until age 26, or writing parking tickets when parked on the wrong side of the street in the winter when the streets have been cleared of snow are examples of injustice.  Yes they are all law, but still an injustice that allows the government to mine money from families and place undue burdens on the citizens.

When enough people become so disenfranchised by the abuse of government and that “resistance becomes duty” then becomes a reality, it will be a sad day.  I pray I never see that day, yet with the multitudes of new offices and their officers with their nose in every aspect of our daily lives I fear the day is near when that resistance raises it’s collective head.

Our government has in fact, ERECTED A MULTITUDE OF NEW OFFICES, AND SENT HITHER SWARMS OF OFFICERS TO HARASS OUR PEOPLE AND EAT OUT THEIR SUBSTANCE.

It is time for Federal and State hearings to make the necessary changes to our laws before resistance becomes that duty.  Let your voice be heard!
