FORT DODGE, Iowa – The Trojan men’s golf team bounced back from a sixth place finish at the AIB Invite with a third place finish at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational on Tuesday.
Jacob Urdahl (Fr., Mason City, IA) and Dalton Olson (Fr., Mason City, IA) both shot 75s to lead the way for NIACC. Urdahl had his best round of the season by nine strokes, while Olson continued his consistent play. He has shot two rounds of 75 and two rounds of 76 in the last week.
“Jacob really played well today and did a great job of staying positive all day,” said NIACC coach Chris Frenz. “He’s been struggling a bit with his game, but this has to be a boost of confidence for him.”
Brent Tarr (Fr., Clear Lake, IA), Brandon Wood (So., Rudd, IA), and Adam Brinkman (So., Mason City, IA) all shot 79 for NIACC’s lowest team score of the season.
“All the guys were in the 70’s, so we’re going in the right direction,” said Frenz. “We haven’t hit our potential yet with all five guys. However, each one has shown they have the ability throughout all of our tournaments. We just need to put it all together that first weekend in May.”
Kirkwood won the eight-team tournament with a score of 291. DMACC was second with 300. NIACC’s 308, Iowa Central-Blue’s 311, and Ellsworth’s 316 rounded out the top-five. This tournament could be a preview of things to come.
“This was a good tournament for us,” said Frenz. “The Fort Dodge Country Club is where the Regional Tournament will be held on May 5th and 6thand this was the first time on the course for some of our guys.”
The Trojans will be at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City on Thursday as they host the NIACC Invitational at 10:30am.
