MASON CITY – Despite the weather forecast of tornadoes and thunderstorms, the races went on as scheduled, but was not able to be completed.
The hotlaps were fast and hard racing. The racers got down to business and just went lap after lap of non-stop fury to get to the end. Whether or not it was because of the weather is not known, but the like they started and then were finishing.
In the Hobby Stock Class, it wasn’t hard to figure out who would be the winner early on. As long as he stayed in the race, Stac Schroeder was going to win. And he did.
The Sports Mod Class Winner was Dan Tenold, from Northwood. He would be the last winner of the night, with only a couple of laps to go, rain made the Stock Car Class come to a halt. With Larry Portis in the lead and drivers like Joe Willier and Derek Green on his tail, the battle for the win had to stop.
Winner for the Jr. Hornets was Oliver Monson and the winner for the Pro Hornets was Ryan Bryant.

And let me guess they had no clue the race track was there when they bought the house?
can anyone tell me the year the current track was built or its first season??
In 1858 the first Cerro Gordo County Fair was held.
The North Iowa Fair Association has been in existence since 1950 and the Fair has been at its present location since 1956.
The first known, or documented race was IMCA Sprint Car race at the I-35 Speedway, Mason City, IA was August 11, 1957. The next one found was August 10, 1958, the Bob Wright Memorial.
It was 20 laps on 0.5 mile dirt oval; 10 miles

thanks Jody for the history lesson. this basicly means everyone knew the track was there. why do some people have to be assholes, and think everyone else has to quit something, just because you were dumb enough to make a bad choice in a neighborhood to live. why dont you live near the railroad or the airport?
