MC School District goes to great lengths to find stolen cell phone on Friday

by Matt Marquardt –

MASON CITY – On Friday afternoon of April 13th at 2:25 pm, Mason City police responded to a report of a stolen cell phone at Madison School.

“A student reported an electronic device stolen,” a message from the Mason City School District stated.  The message said the device was taken from an “unsecured area” during physical education class.

“In our efforts to recover the device and to find the person responsible, we investigated the situation thoroughly,” the message from the school district said.  “Our efforts involved interviewing individual students, searching the building, trash bins, restrooms, recycle bins, unlocked lockers, school grounds, etc.”

Mason City police were called and an unannounced locker clean out was conducted.  A theft report was filed.

“Mason City Police had 3-4 officers in the building to assist with our investigation,” the message continued.

The message was sent to parents “to dispel any rumors that may have been generated due to the presence of multiple police officers in the building.”

The device was not located.

Some people on here seem to be complaining that it’s just a phone. And why can’t the student take the phone to school??? Pretty soon the schools will be using I-Pads, they are already using desk top and lap top computers. So what happens if some kid takes one of the schools electronics?? I don’t think there is anything wrong with trying to show the kids a lesson to learn…DON’T TAKE THINGS THAT DON’T BELONG TO YOU!!!!!

anonymous; seriously; DID…YOU…READ…WHAT…WAS…WRITTEN…And then make a comment like that…..REALLY.

YES I DID ONE 1 officer was more than enough for this call. read my lips, supervision lacking, warm the chiefs ass!!!

What this article is about is complete lack of supervision by the local Police. One officer to this call was more than enough, and to have four??? Three could be out writing tickets to generate monies for the city(lower taxes for you and I) Supervision starts at the top and works down. Wake UP People, time to look at your Chief and warm his seat!!! City Council are you LISTENING????

Maybe I am mistaken here but I thought that school had been closed a couple of years ago. When did it reopen and why?? What are school age kids doing with cell phones in school anyway. I can see them having them going to and from school but not in school. It is a terrible waste to have 4 officers tied up for a school theft when I had $200.00 stolen from my account and had one officer show up and they never di catch the thief. Not the officer’s fault. He a very good and knew they would probably not find them but he was professional. We need more police on the streets.

Anonymous try having over $15000 stolen from your business & have the thief get caught & plead guilty only to have the sorry ********* county atty & judge let them off scott free no restitution no probation thats the court system in Cerro Gordo county lucky all of us protect the criminals

Sounds like a good news story. You should give NIT the information on it.

I for one think MCPD do a pretty good job. Perfect? Of course not. But for the amount they get paid, the abuse they take, and all the haters here and on the streets…they do well. I know there is a lot of crime in MC. Believe it or not, that is not the fault of MCPD. With the way the economy is, with the numbers of want-to-be hoodlums and gangsters in town, and with so few police on the streets…they do a damned good job. Thanks MCPD. Keep up the good work and believe that most support your efforts.

Oh thank goodness for the police, 4 of them to look for some device that shouldn’t have been left unattended anyway. Wonder what the other 2 day shift cops were doing, certainly not arresting real criminals. :O

Boy is this story and I mean story, getting stretched. The kindle has been found. Was posted on the officers daughters FB page yesterday or the day before. And now it comes to light that meds were taken? Aren’t meds suppose to be taken to the office? Guess a valid reason is needed to bring MCPD off the street to look for daughters Kindle. Assumption; this will be done for other students?

Maybe this needs to be brought to light….kids need to stop stealing and taking things that don’t belong to them.

Story should be corrected. A Kindle Fire was stolen. It has not been found. Medications are also missing. A stolen cell phone WAS recovered during the search for the Kindle.

The parents can look at the bill on line and call the recent numbers to try and track down who took the phone. That’s what I did last summer when mhy daughter’s phone was stolen fromthe pool. And we found out who stole it and pressed charges. Unfortunately the person who stole it still hasn’t paid her restitution to us. That’s our wonderful judicial system at work in Mason City, not making the kids or the parents accountable.

The judicial system in this town is pathetic…juvenile court is even more pathetic.

Juvenile court is what I meant to say…and yes they are pathetic. My situation happened last August and I have yet to see one single dime for that girl taking my daughter’s phone. And we didn’t get the phone back either.

I can believe that you haven’t seen anything happen with your daughter’s case. Not sure what the juvenile court officers do all day?? Surf the net, look at magazines??? A friend of mine that dealt with them said they are a joke and that they think they are all high school sports legends! hahahah

To bad they didnt make as much of an effort to stop the bulling there. Its a cell phone get to a real issue. This town has way more problems than worring about some 13 year olds phone. What a joke.

So someone’s person property is not all that important?

Maybe these items should be left at home. I send my kids to school to learn, not play with electronic devices. They had more cops out for this than when the kids took off from the same school and started the fields on fire. I am so excited to send my child to this joke of a school next year
