MASON CITY – A member of the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s department made a stop of a vehicle Saturday afternoon in the 300 block of North Federal. During the traffic contact the deputy located a large amount of methamphetamine in possession of the driver identified as 55-year-old Jonathan Jay Johnson of 1920 Wilson Avenue South in Mason City.
Jonathan Johnson was arrested and transported to Cerro Gordo County Jail after being charged with one class B felony count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, one class D felony count of failure to affix a drug tax stamp, one simple misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one simple misdemeanor count of driving while suspended.
After appearing before a magistrate Sunday morning Johnson was held on bail in the amount of $105,000 pending further court proceedings. Sources indicate more arrests and charges may be pending.
Possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver is a class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison if a defendant is convicted.
Court records show since 1998 Jonathan Johnson has been charge with possession with intent to deliver, delivery, and manufacturing methamphetamine at least three times between Cerro Gordo and Franklin Counties.
Court records also show as a result of plea agreements with the prosecution he has been able to avoid large amounts of jail time resulting in probation or residential treatment. Even when sentenced to 10 years in prison following a probation violation in one of the cases the Iowa Department of Corrections released Johnson back into society after only serving a fraction of the sentence.

I’ve always found the drug tax stamp thing to be stupid as hell. Do they really expect a drug dealer like that to walk into a courthouse and say “i got 5 lbs of ______ for sale, i need stamps” ??? thats like punching a cop and expecting to walk away free.

More arrests could be pending? That means he is singing like a canary and snitching on others. He will probably be going to get time served and a few years of probation. He will be back on our streets dealing his shit before you know it. Gotta love our justice system.

This PUKE should be locked up for at least 20 years but our milk-sop judges will probably slap his hand and turn him loose. How frustrating this must be for law enforcement.
