BOONE, Iowa – NIACC’s women’s golf got a pair of top-10 individual finishes by Sarah Steinauer (Fr., Clarinda, IA) and Alexandria Eckenrod (Fr., Mason City, IA) during a third place team finish at the DMACC Invite on Thursday.
Steinauer placed fifth with an 84 and was five shots off medal winner Krissy Teig of AIB, who shot a 79. Eckenrod fought through an injury to finish tied for sixth with an 86.
“Sarah played really well today and I am excited for her and the improvement she keeps making in her game,” NIACC golf coach Chris Frenz said. “She has a great attitude and doesn’t let much bother her.
“Alexandria had a great round going and then injured her ankle, she toughed it out and finished as best she could.”
Moriah Sherman (Fr., Charles City, IA) was just outside the top-10 at 13th with 91 strokes, and Mikayla Smith (Fr., Mason City, IA) tied for 15th with a 93.
“This was Moriah’s first tournament of the season and I was happy with her effort,” Frenz said. “Mikayla is struggling with her confidence a bit, but she’s such a good player, she’ll bounce back. I’m sure of it.”
DMACC won the event with a score of 342. AIB was four shots behind with 346, while NIACC shot a 354 and Iowa Central scored a 364 to round out the field.
NIACC will go to Briggs Woods Golf Course on Tuesday to take part in the Ellsworth Tournament.
